How to Increase Fuel Efficiency on Your Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a good SUV that has high rankings for conquering off-road trails and for having a plush interior. It’s a vehicle that has been around for a number of years, but Jeep continues to keep it relevant. Still, with it only getting about 12 to 20 miles to the gallon, Grand Cherokee owners may want to increase the fuel efficiency to be eco-friendly and save money. Install the best catalytic converters when you do replace parts. Here are some things you can do to keep your Grand Cherokee operating at peak performance.
Install a Clean Air Filter
The air filter on your car should be replaced about every 15K to 30K miles. If you do a lot of driving on unpaved roads or in smog-filled cities, you should probably change it more often. At the very least, it should be changed every three years, because it gets brittle with age. The air filter gets air to the engine, requiring less fuel to run.
Clean the Fuel Injectors and Intake Manifold
The fuel injectors can get clogged over time, which decreases fuel efficiency. Use a commercial cleaner to clean up your engine. You’ll need to review the location of the injectors in your vehicle, but cleaning up can give you better miles per gallon.
Check Your Tire Pressure
Under-inflated tires reduce fuel efficiency by up to 3% for every 1 psi drop. Use the proper tire pressure that is printed on your driver’s door jamb or the owner’s manual. Don’t rely on the pressure printed on the side of the tire. There’s a bonus that properly inflated tires last longer. It doesn’t take long to take out a tire gauge at the first of the month to check them out.
Use the Recommended Motor Oil
Another way to increase fuel efficiency is by using the right motor oil for your vehicle. For general use, the Grand Cherokee needs 10w30, but if you live in a colder climate, you might want to try 5w30. Using the right oil can give you 1 to 2% more, but all of these things add up.
Replace Spark Plugs
High-performance spark plugs that match the way you drive. Typically, the Grand Cherokee takes a spark plug with the heat range of four. Go hotter if you do a lot of towing. If you drive a lot of highway miles, you can go down to a three. Buy spark plugs from the same company where you get best exhaust mufflers for your truck.
Clean the MAF or MAP Sensor
This sensor measures the oxygen content of the air coming into the engine and meters out fuel accordingly. When it gets dirty, it can measure out more fuel than necessary. You need special cleaning spray to clean this sensor. One that doesn’t leave residue is required. Cleaning is easy because you simply spray the sensor to clean it. Don’t touch it with your hands.
Shop For High-Quality Aftermarket Parts
When you replace parts in your Grand Cherokee, look for Jeep Grand Cherokee performance exhaust systems that do better than the original manufacturer’s equipment.
