The Best Business Books to Read On Your Lunch Break

If you’re like Bill Gates, you read 50 or more books a year on average. If you’re like the average American, however, you’re reading about four to five.

The fact is, reading is extremely important as an entrepreneur or working professional. Not only does it educate you; it keeps you mentally sharp also has health benefits: Reading on a daily basis can reduce stress by up to 68%! The problem is that many of us are so absorbed in our schedules that we can never find the time to give up that much of our attention.

If you’re already pressed for time, then your schedule probably won’t let up anytime soon. There is some good news, though: You can still find the time to read if you learn to take advantage of the gaps in your day. If the most successful entrepreneurs find time to read, you can as well.

How, though? If you have a traditional 9-to-5 work schedule, all you really need to do is locate the breaks in your day. Think of any period where you have more than 10 minutes of downtime. For many of us, that means our lunch break or commute. Rather than spending every lunch break talking to colleagues, you could instead use that time (or even two or three lunch breaks a week) to make headway in a book you’ve been meaning to read.

So, what exactly should you be reading? A little hint: The most successful individuals on the planet aren’t reading a lot of fiction; they’re most likely reading educational material that relates to self-improvement, business, and entrepreneurship, or their industry. These types of books sharpen what we already know, or teach us something we knew nothing about. From money savviness to funding a small business, there’s plenty of material out there that can help you grow.
