  1. Share Your Story 

The first step in building your personal brand is having a story to attract people to you. This is your chance to be as raw, real and authentic as possible. This is how you will get attention from the people you want to work with you or buy your products and services. It’s important to tell your real story. Let people know who you really are and where you come from. Share your struggles and successes. Make people feel a connection when they find out who you are. Everyone has a story to tell, so think about yours and how you can share it with your audience.

There are many ways you can share your story. You can do it through your personal website, social media, blogs, PR, television, and podcasts. You should focus on telling your story on these outlets. The most important thing to remember is to get clear on who you are and what you want to be known for. That way you can be consistent across all media outlets and be seen as an authority figure in your space.

  1. Use The Power of Positioning

The power of positioning leads to fewer barriers when it comes to getting what you want. That could be getting media placements, powerful interviews with important people, booking shows, making sales, handling objections, you name it. If you can position yourself as the “go-to” person in your industry, establish authority and you will be taken more seriously.

Having social pages on all of the popular social networks can be a huge benefit and show credibility and authority. Depending on who you are you may like and use a certain platform more than others but having a social strategy in place can really help you build a brand and attract people you want to come to your page.

Regardless of the social channels you use, you need to make them look professional and consistent across all platforms. Use your bio and profile pictures to your advantage. Often these are the first things people see when they come to your page. Have your bio explain who you are and what you do across each social channel you use. That way every time someone sees you it’s always consistent and who you are and what you do is the first thing they always see.

Having a PR strategy for strategic media placements is key to sharing your story, developing brand awareness, and becoming the “go-to” or authority figure in your space. This is where most people struggle. Getting onto major publications should be your goal but how do you get on to these major publications like Forbes, Entrepreneur, Huffington Post, Inc., Influence, etc.

There are multiple ways to do so. First, you can hire a PR firm to do it for you but often times this can cost an individual a pretty penny. If you are more established this might be the best option for you. The second way is to get on smaller publications first. You can do this by reaching out to contributors at these publications asking them if they would be willing to share your story. You can often times create an account and start sharing your knowledge on some smaller publications and it’s easier to connect with contributors to smaller publication than it might be at larger ones.

Whatever way you choose to get on publications, it can be huge for your business! However just getting on the publications isn’t enough. You have to know how to leverage the PR! This is what most people get wrong. They expect to get huge results from being in a top publication but the results come how you use the PR as leverage.

Most people don’t know what to do after they get PR. Once you have the PR you can leverage it to get better clients, more deals, more speaking engagements, more podcasts, more everything!

Use the PR for content and use it for credibility.

The First thing you should do is showcase your PR on multiple social channels and your website. That way when people come to your pages they see your press and automatically think you’re a “somebody” with authority and credibility.

You should also start focusing on creating an influencer kit that you can use as you start to pitch yourselves to larger publications. Once the media kit is created you can start using it to get onto bigger publications and podcast. From there, keep adding to it and you will be able to pitch yourself to more and more media outlets with better success.
