Which Female CEOs Are Leading Businesses in 2023

Despite the ruthless environment in the business world, some individuals can rise above the rest and reach a high status of power and wealth. Those that have traditionally held the highest position in a company have usually been men; however, in recent times, this has begun to shift. Although only 12.5% of all CEOs are women in the top 500 companies in the world, women have been increasingly taking on the CEO role to oversee massive businesses.
The most successful female CEOs span several different sectors and industries. From successful women in the gambling industry to those leading tech companies such as Google and IBM, the female presence in the biggest companies in the world is clear to see. Below we will go through which female CEOs are leading businesses in 2023.
Pansy Ho
Pansy Ho is one of the daughters of billionaire gambling tycoon Stanley Ho who made his fortune running several casinos in Macau. He is regarded as the top man in the gambling industry. However, Pansy Ho was determined to continue his legacy and take his empire further than ever before, and she did just that. Not only does Pansy Ho run some of the most successful casinos in Macau, but she is also head of several other businesses that she has started herself. She was named the wealthiest woman in Hong Kong in 2018 by Bloomberg, with an eye-watering $6 billion net worth.
Many thought it would be hard for her to outperform her father in her business-related endeavors; however, she managed to prove just about everyone wrong. She also owns a home in Asia that cost over $11 million, taking the number two spot for the most expensive homes in the continent.
Ruth Porat
Ruth Porat has all the drive and determination you need to rise to the top of the business world. Despite a number of hardships, including a diagnosis of breast cancer in 2001, Ruth Porat was able to bounce back and take the top role in some of the largest companies in the world, including Google and Amazon. Ruth Porat started at Morgan Stanley, where she made a name for herself on Wall Street after graduating from Stanford University with a degree in Economics. She has had one of the most impressive careers on this list, being known as Wall Street’s most influential woman after working with gigantic companies such as eBay and Amazon. In the financial crisis of 2008, Ruth Porat was giving financial advice to the United States treasury, which just shows how much she was valued as an asset to the world of business.
Now Ruth Porat works at Google, advising the company on ways to increase its profits through project management, advertisement, and data protection. She is finding a lot of success, as you might expect. She is 61 years old but doesn’t appear to show any signs of ending her career any time soon, and with how well she is performing, it is clear that her current net worth of $70 million will increase before she retires.

Emma Walmsley is the child of Lady Christina Walmsley and Sir Robert Walmsley. She was born in 1969 and attended Oxford University, where she obtained a master’s degree in Classics and Modern Languages. One of the first big jobs Walmsley landed was becoming head of marketing for L’Oreal, where she was in charge of overseeing the products designed for China. She stayed in this job for 17 years before joining GlaxoSmithKline. This move happened in 2010, and it wasn’t long before Walmsley climbed the ranks and became the company’s CEO, making her the only CEO running a massive pharmaceutical company that was female at the time.
Although she wasn’t completely familiar with the industry, this didn’t stop her influence in optimizing the company’s international consumer part of the company where she had plenty of experience from working at L’Oreal. One of Walmsley’s most successful decisions for GlaxoSmithKline was a restructuring move that saved the company a whopping £400 million. With success like this, it is no surprise that she was named one of the top-paid females in the FTSE 100 Index, raking in a yearly salary of £6 million.
Virginia Rometty
Virginia Rometty is regarded as a leader in the world of tech. She is the president and CEO of IBM, a massive company in the tech industry. Rometty has had a lot of influence over implementing blockchain technology, cybersecurity, quantum technologies, and cloud computing. After graduating from North Carolina State University, she joined General Motors before going on to work for IBM, where she climbed the ranks, becoming the CEO in 2012. She was a massive reason why the company has become as successful as it is today and has rightfully earned a net worth of $27.2 million.
