3 Tips For Setting Up Your Space To Make Kids’ Bedtime Easier

If you feel like no one in your home is getting enough sleep recently, including your kids, you might want to rethink how you have your space set up, especially with regards to where and how you get your little ones ready for bed. With just a few changes, you may find that you have an easier time settling your kids in and that they have an easier time falling asleep and staying asleep.

To help you in doing this, here are three tips for setting up your space to make kids’ bedtime easier.

Relax

The first thing you have to know about getting your kids ready for bed is that it needs to be a relaxing time. And while it’s natural for parents to be stressed at the end of the day, the stress that you feel and are projecting onto your kids can make it harder for them to relax and get to sleep.

To help make your space more relaxing, try turning off electronics in the hour before you begin getting ready for bed with your kids. During this time, you can read together, listen to relaxing music, or do other activities that can help your kids relax and get more sleepy. While this can be a hard transition if your kids are used to using devices up until they’re brushing their teeth, it can be well worth it for everyone to get more relaxed before going to bed.

Create Good Sleep Routines

The bedtime routines that you have with your kids can also help to make your space and the atmosphere of your home more conducive to bedtime.

There are all kinds of things that you can include in a quality bedtime routine. Doing things like taking a warm bath, eating a light snack, reading together, getting pajamas on, brushing their teeth, and being quiet together are all great things to include in a bedtime routine. And the more you do these things, the more they will signal to your child that it’s time to start winding down and getting sleepy.

Block Out Disruptive Noise

Once you’ve gotten your kids in bed, the last thing you want to have happen is for outside noise to make it hard for them to fall asleep. Because of this, you should try to do what you can to block out disruptive noises that could affect your little ones.

While you might think that soundproofing your child’s room might do the trick, what you really want to do is to teach your child to fall asleep with some noise going on around them so that they can fall asleep easily when a bit of noise is present. To do this, try putting in a sound machine in your child’s room. You can set the volume as high or as low as your child wants, and you can choose from all kinds of calming sounds to help your child focus on those noises and not any other noises that might be taking place outside of their room.
