Movers & Shakers Interview with Kelley Kitley

Tell us your name and a little about yourself.
Kelley Kitley- I’m a grateful wife and mother of 4, author of an autobiography of survival, ‘MY self,’ TEDx speaker, psychotherapist, and mental health media expert.
What exactly does your company do?
Serendipitous Psychotherapy, LLC provides individual, couples, and family therapy seeking to become the best version of themselves.
What were the biggest challenges you have faced and how did you overcome them?
Personally, I’ve experienced a lot of adversity as a result of trauma from a young age and have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into my healing process.
Professionally, I was advised not to release an autobiography because it could “ruin my career.” A week before my book was about to launch the publisher filed for bankruptcy. These experiences made me resilient and as a result, I pushed through, self-published, and ‘MY self’ became an Amazon bestseller. I also receive messages daily about how sharing my story helped someone else.
What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your career?
Find role models who inspire you and watch what they do.
Who are your biggest influences and people you admire and why?
Cheryl Strayed- She is authentic, gutsy, and a warrior. She has also written a book “Wild’ that was adapted into a movie. This is my dream and there are aspects of her journey I aspire to follow. We’ll be speaking at an event together in Los Angeles in September and I can’t wait to rub arms with her!
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are?
My husband. He has kept me grounded which is so important for me because I tend to be juggling multiple balls in the air. We’re great co-parents which support both of our careers.
What do you see as your greatest success in life?
Personally, my recovery. I’ve been sober for 5.5 years. Professionally-landing 3 national tv appearances by hustling hard without a PR rep.
