Ryan Scribner – Investing Simple

Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Ryan Scribner. Ryan is an expert on the subject of Personal Finance. He has a massive Youtube following and is also the founder of the very popular Personal Finance blog, InvestingSimple.
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Ryan Scribner, I run a personal finance blog known as Investing Simple and my own YouTube channel. I teach others about investing, finance, passive income and showcase different money making ideas on my channel.
What does your company do?
My company focuses on providing great educational resources for free. By leveraging affiliate marketing instead of a paywall, I am able to offer most of my content completely free. Instead of charging for content, I get paid for referrals. This allows me to help as many people as possible through written articles and video content.
How did you get started?
I was a DIY hobby investor who went deep into the study. I spent months reading just about every book I could get my hands on about investing. Once I started investing my own money, I decided to start a YouTube channel where I documented the process and taught some of the basic investing principles. I did this alongside my job for 6 months, then I ultimately quit my job to pursue this full time.
Who’s been your biggest inspiration along your journey?
Jeff Rose from Good Financial Cents (for the blog)
Graham Stephan on YouTube (for youtube)
What are your top 3 keys to gaining financial freedom?
The first, look at what everyone else is doing and do the opposite, if everyone is going to a bar on Friday night you should go to the library
The second is get very specific about what you are doing and who you are helping, money is made by helping a small group with a very specific problem or pain point, 1,000 true fans is better than 1,000,000 people knowing who you are
The third is take a risk, at some point you will have to do something or make a decision where your friends, family, co-workers do not understand or believe in you, higher risk = higher potential return
What are your future plans?
In the near future, travel to12 different countries in the next 12 months
Long term, scale up the blog and sell it in the 8 figure price range (no one stays on top forever!)
What’s your definition of success?
Success is feeling good inside and being happy, it is not about the followers or how you appear to others on social media, it is what you think of yourself when you are alone and look in the mirror
