Whether you meet with an accident or undergo any surgery, the most important thing to look after is how to come back out of it with the same energy levels and momentum. In some cases, events happen that are outside your control, which might force you out of your normal routine – which might make it difficult for you to get back on your original path. Whatever the case may be, gaining back your momentum is not rocket science. It can be done, either quickly or at a slower pace, depending on how committed you are.
Adjusting Your Goals
Remind yourself what your goals are– that’ll convince you to commit more. However, given that you’re out of the loop, you can allow yourself to look at the bigger picture more. Picture yourself as a driver and the loss of momentum as a pit stop. So to get out of it will require a proper goal with how would you want yourself to be after a few days.
Now that you’re not on the road anymore, you can take a look at the map and see if you’re going the right way. This will result in either you changing some of your goals or it will reinforce the original ones – either way, it will provide purpose, which is very important in gaining your momentum back.
Break Down The Plan
You might have very ambitious goals, but it’s important to know how to get out of the problem you are currently in. Looking for simplicity is important, as it will not only save you a lot of time, but it will give you some clarity as far as were you are going. You can do various exercises and work to keep yourself engaged and this will help one get more flexibility. Start prioritizing things early in the morning and figure out what needs to be done before the day is over to keep you involved and physically active– then you can look over what progress you accomplished at the end of the week.
Take Small Steps
While you might think to yourself that reaching the lowest hanging fruit on the tree is not worth your time or doesn’t motivate you enough, try to remind yourself that Rome wasn’t built in a day. If you bite more than you can chew then that can become intimidating and you won’t manage to gain your momentum back.
For example, if you’re a doctor and you want to improve your practice, try to start small. Instead of making large plans to increase staff or building a new location, you can think about something as small as lifting aids first if that’s what you’re interested in. In the same way, one needs to increase exercises gradually in order to retain its momentum. But if you take up all the exercise at a time when it may strain you and your muscles and create more problems.
Blocking Out Distraction
Giving yourself a break every now and then is important because you don’t want to suffer from burnout. However, when you start working it’s important to stay focused and get things done. Stopping yourself to do any other work will restrict your motions and will indirectly affect your momentum and things will end up being done slower.
Don’t Be Too Harsh On Yourself
There’s a chance that you might be a perfectionist, which could make things more difficult when trying to regain momentum. If you have a fear of making mistakes that can result in procrastination, which won’t get your momentum back. Try to acknowledge that you don’t have to reach your destination in a single day and that you’re going to make mistakes along the way.
You’re not going to get everything right all the time, but you will get to enjoy small wins – you can focus on those to keep things going. Getting back into the groove takes a bit of time, so be prepared.
