Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev is one of the greatest all-rounders the game has seen. From leading all-time charts for the team to leading the team to its first-ever World Cup title, Kapil played a crucial role in turning the fortunes of the sport in the country. It was his inspirational outing at the 1983 World Cup which sparked a revolution in the country.

From being the underdogs to upsetting the favorites in the final, India pulled off a heist in England to secure their first-ever World Cup trophy. And at the center of the revolutionary run was the leader, the all-rounder Kapil Dev. With 303 runs and 12 wickets, Kapil led the side with example.

During his illustrious career, the all-rounder amassed 5248 Test runs at a strike rate of 95 and 434 in the longest format. While he scored 3783 runs and bagged 253 wickets in the white-ball format. His exploits have made Kapil a well-known figure in the world of cricket.

Who is Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia?

Born in Delhi, Romi Bhatia is a businesswoman. The 61-year-old oversees the family’s hotel business, Kaptain Retreat (previously known as Kapil Hotel) in Chandigarh. Romi Bhatia also takes care of other small businesses of her family. Being a businesswoman, Romi is a fearsome character who never backs down from a challenge.

The power couple had their first and only child, Amiya Dev on 16th January 1994. Kapil Dev and Romi had Amiya almost 14 years after their marriage. The couple had to go through some tough times as Romi was not conceiving. Despite all the troubles, they passed with flying colors in the test of life and are one of the much-admired couples in the sport.

How Kapil Dev and Romi Bhatia met?

The former skipper met his better half through a mutual friend Sunil Bhatia. Sunil had introduced the two and their first meeting happened in Delhi during a Test match against the West Indies in 1979. Kapil scored his maiden Test century in the match and impressed one and all including his future wife then, Romi.

In his book, Triumph of the Spirit, the legendary cricketer split the beans about his proposal to Romi Bhatia which was nothing but filmy. Kapil proposed to her on a local train and Romi, although she took her time, said yes! It was in 1980 that the couple was bound in holy matrimony and they continue to inspire millions with their love.
