Smart Bathroom Gadgets & Features You'll Need in 2019

Practically born with a smartphone in their hands, millennials expect their homes to be equipped with the latest smart technology. Specifically, the newest generation of homeowners is looking for houses that will make their lives more convenient and reduce the stress that comes with owning a home. It should come as no surprise that the newest generation of homeowners are looking for “smart homes” that reflect their lifestyle of technology.

A joint study conducted by CNET and Coldwell Banker revealed these surprising, smart home statistics:

  • 47% of millennials have smart home products in their homes
  • 76% of smart home products are controlled by smartphones
  • 57% of Americans say that smart home technology products save them an average of 30 minutes a day
  • 45% of Americans say that smart home products save them an average of $98.30 a month
  • 91% of those who own smart home products would recommend them to others
  • 81% of buyers say they would be more willing to buy a home if smart home products were already installed

Whether you’re looking to add a couple of minor smart additions to your bathroom or are planning a full, smart remodel, here are the coolest, time-saving, energy efficient, smart bathroom gadgets you’ll want to equip your bathroom within 2019.

Shower Speakers

Although shower speakers are not necessarily life-changing, they have made singing in the shower a much more invigorating experience. Depending on how much money you want to spend, you can purchase a portable shower speaker, or you can have speakers directly installed on your shower wall. Most portable shower speakers connect via Bluetooth and have a battery life that ranges anywhere from 8-15 hours of continuous play.

Smart Scale

Smart scales are a great way to add a smart feature to your home without actually having to do any remodeling. Simply place them in the corner of your bathroom or tuck them somewhere safe and bring it out when you want to. They’re also a fantastic way to monitor and view your overall health because smart scales don’t just monitor weight, they can record body fat, muscle mass, and your heart rate.

Smart scales work nicely with fitness trackers and smartwatches. Uploading the data will help you to more accurately pinpoint what you need to do in order to reach your goals.

Towel Warmers

On a cold winter morning, nothing sounds dreamier than being wrapped up in a freshly heated towel. However, most people are unaware that you don’t need a personal maid to provide this service. Towel warmers come in all shapes and sizes. Depending on how much free space is available, customers can select from various towel warmers including a freestanding towel warmer, a hydronic towel warmer, or a towel warming drawer.

Digital Faucets

You might not think a digital faucet is worth it until you have one. But think about it, how much water do you waste every year by turning on the water and waiting for it to reach a reasonable temperature. Smart faucets eliminate that worry. The Nomos by Fima Carlo Frattini has a digital display that lets you set the specific water temperature, so no more wasting water by leaving the sink on and hoping you don’t burn your fingertips.

Another bonus to the digital faucet is fewer germs. An office study conducted in 2012 showed that 75 percent of break room sink handles were one of the dirtiest things in the office. Typically faucet handles are often overlooked while cleaning and are not nearly as clean as we think they are.

Heated Floors

Tile and wood floors are one of the major reasons fuzzy sock companies have stayed in business. However, to combat those cold feet, heated flooring is becoming a part of the new housing trend. Floor heating (a.k.a. Radiant floor heating) can be installed in almost any home and with any flooring. Floor heating saves an average of 15 percent on heating bills because of the efficient way it warms a house. After installation, underfloor heating needs very little to no maintenance at all.

Switchable Glass

Large windows are fantastic for letting in natural light and energy efficiency; however, they can pose a problem for those wanting to use the bathroom in privacy. Switchable Glass, also known as Electric Privacy Glass or Smart Glass, combats this issue by allowing users to switch glass from transparent to opaque by simply flipping a switch, tapping an app, or waving your hand. This unique technology will enable homeowners to allow natural light into their home but the option for privacy as needed.

Jetted Tubs

How would you like to relax in your jetted tub after a long day at work? A whirlpool tub contains water jets that have high-pressure and deep tissue massaging jets. The jets are placed in just the right areas to soothe sore and aching muscles. However, the jets can be adjusted to target more specific areas. One of the greatest benefits of getting a whirlpool tub is the fact that you can receive similar care that you would in a therapy clinic, all from the comfort of your home.

Soaking Tubs

Free-standing soaking tubs are quickly becoming a must-have amenity for a luxury bathroom. Because nothing feels more like a day at the spa than surrounding yourself by hot water and steam. Homeowners can choose from a range of modern silhouettes to more vintage silhouetted styles. These tubs differ from a jetted tub in the fact that there are no jets; it is purely to soak in and let go of all your troubles.

Chromotherapy Tubs

According to chromotherapy practices, specific colors will trigger an emotion within our bodies whether we know it or not. Different colors will have different effects based on the color’s characteristics. Warm colors are believed to energize and stimulate the mind, while cool colors are meant to relax and relieve built-up tension. If you’ve noticed you get the “winter blues” or suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), then you could benefit from a chromotherapy tub.

Smart Mirror

If none of these smart features impress your friends, a smart mirror will surely do the trick. Possibly the most futuristic feature, a smart mirror will give you access to everything going on in your life as soon as you step out of the shower. Quickly check the weather, catch up on the news, or organize your calendar.

Defining what a smart home is can be tricky. For some homeowners, just having a few speakers hooked up and a smart scale on the bathroom floor is their definition of the smart home. For others, only the latest technology will satisfy, and being able to control every device with just the push of an app is a must.

Whether you’re just looking to update or sell your home, adding a smart product will increase the value of your home. While many of these products may seem unnecessary equipping your home with these latest technologies will actually save energy and money, streamline security and safety, and provide hours of entertainment.
