8 Holiday Travel Adventures Your Kids Will Enjoy

8 Holiday Travel Adventures Your Kids Will Enjoy

Planning an amazing trip is a great way to bond with your family, and there are so many child-friendly experiences on offer. Through travel, you have the chance to expose them to the wonders of nature or the places from their favorite storybooks, and you might be surprised at just how many child-friendly destinations are open for bookings.

Borneo is best known for its orangutan population and the popular volunteering opportunities that go with it, and while this is one of the nation’s key attractions, there are plenty of other sights for young eyes. Mulu National Park, for example, is home to a number of remarkable insects, while Turtle Island Park is the best place to see your favorite shell-bound reptiles. Even if you’d rather not go on foot, canoe and boat rides are a great way to see the country from the outside in.

South Africa

Taking classes on a holiday may not appeal to your kids straight away, but a few courses on animal tracking and bush survival skills might just change their minds. They can also learn to kayak, snorkel, or bike through the mountains, but even that pales in comparison to the experience waiting in KwaZulu-Natal. You’ll find a handful of nature reserves and conservation centers in and around Cape Vidal and Durban, which means plenty of opportunities to spot the Big Five – lions, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, and African elephants – and leave your kids in awe.

Many of Canada’s best attractions are aimed exclusively at young imaginations, and there’s no doubt your kids will love what is on offer there. From the natural wonder that is Niagara Falls, Banff National Park, and the polar bears of Churchill to the endless entertainment of the Canadian Children’s Museum and the Kid’s Market, there’s plenty to see and do. Even if all else fails, make a beeline for Toronto Zoo – the largest zoo in the country, it’s guaranteed to provide even the fussiest child with hours of entertainment.

Active imaginations will love Transylvania for its vampiric essence alone. The instantly-recognizable Bran Castle is an obvious highlight, and a popular site for walking tours, but unlike the vampires, you needn’t be afraid of the sun. Your kids will love the range of outdoor activities on offer in Transylvania.

Between Scărișoara glacier cave and Salina Turda salt mine, there’s nothing ordinary about this holiday itinerary, but even if you prefer to stay above ground, you can still enjoy an adrenaline-pumping adventure. Postavaru Mountain is the perfect spot for hiking or skiing in the winter, and Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden promises nature lovers a memorable visual experience.

A hotspot for history, wildlife, and unforgettable interactions, India is the perfect setting for a memorable holiday experience. No matter what time of year you visit, you and the kids can take the opportunity to go wild on a game drive through a Bengal tiger habitat, observe the culture in action at a local temple, or take in the Taj Mahal at sunrise. If you plan well, your visit can even coincide with one of India’s many festivals. Holi and Diwali are among the nation’s most popular events, so well-loved that they are celebrated around the world – after all, what’s not to love about a kaleidoscope of color exploding over countless patrons?

Your kids have never seen the outdoors like this before. Beyond the frozen natural beauty on show, Iceland is also packed with breath-taking waterfalls, glaciers, hot springs, and geysers, and offers one of the best vantage points for viewing the Northern Lights. Just make sure to pack plenty of warm clothing for you and the family – average temperatures throughout the year range between -1°C and 12°C.

You don’t need to be a fan of raw fish to enjoy a holiday in Japan, but it helps. While food is a huge part of Japanese culture, there are plenty of distractions in the form of technology. Kids of all ages will love the novelty of innovative tech found everywhere; from gaming platforms to the bathrooms, and everywhere in between. Multi-level department stores dedicated to gadgets are fairly common in Japan, and you could easily spend hours exploring these shopping dynasties, before spending plenty of money on gadgets, anime, and stationery for the kids.

In case you don’t have the time to see all the best parts of South America, consider Peru a convenient highlight reel. It may be famous for the Inca trail and its distinguishing ancient ruins, but there are many more pleasant surprises awaiting you and your family. For the price of a little more physical exertion, you can enjoy breathtaking views from the mountain peaks, keeping your eyes peeled for wild animals in their natural habitat. Meanwhile, there’s plenty for brave little ones to enjoy at ground level, like horseback riding, kayaking, or sand-boarding.

Despite all of the challenges that can come along with embarking on a family holiday, the joy that comes from giving your kids an unforgettable experience can’t be erased (or underestimated). You’ll be instilling in them a love of traveling, but also an appreciation for other cultures, a gift that will last just as long as your photos.
