How Celebrity Stylist Casey Paul went from Law to Fashion

Published

on

Casey Paul is a UK-based business coach and celebrity stylist. She also has a law degree and actually worked in a corporate firm.

For most people, living these distinctly different lives would be nothing short of a big challenge.

I recently had a great conversation with Casey and she tells how she does it all.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background

I grew up in Berkshire in the UK. Currently, I live with my boyfriend and our two doggies. We are actually moving to Portugal where I will be based on now for a while which is super exciting. Luckily I work online, so I can be anywhere in the world.

I wanted to be a lawyer so I went to university and got a law degree. After that, I got a job at a law firm. I realized corporate work and having a boss wasn’t the life I wanted to live. I constantly felt really unfulfilled and lacked any purpose.

Eventually, I quit my job. I packed a suitcase, got on a flight to Hong Kong and set up a women’s clothing brand. I got my brand into its first department store in 2008, then scaled across the UK for over 8 years. This led me into styling.

Why did you decide to go into styling and coaching?

Styling for me was a natural progression from having a clothing brand as I wanted to understand more about why certain colors and styles worked on different body shapes and skin tones. I achieved everything I wanted as a stylist: styling celebrities for red carpet events, appearing on TV as a fashion consultant, becoming a magazine-style editor, getting experience in commercials in LA.

With all my experience, the next step for me was to start teaching women how to start careers as stylists. That was when I set up my academy. After a while, I noticed a lot of my students were struggling with getting clients, so I started coaching them on business management and running profitable organizations. Later, I expanded my class to include other female service-based business owners, because it’s really all about applying the same strategies!

How do you balance being a business coach and a stylist?

Right now, I spend most of my time coaching online. I only work with my celebrity clients when they have red carpet events and photoshoots so I find it really easy to balance the two.

What are the biggest challenges you have faced in running your businesses?

The biggest challenges I have faced have been learning to work smart and not hard. This was a big shift at the start of my coaching business.

I also have the typical mindset challenges you face when growing your business. Getting to the next level of success always takes a stronger mindset. That has been huge for me and I invest in my own coaches to support my growth.

What is your vision for the future of your brand?

I just want to keep supporting women in creating more impact and income in their businesses.
