Mark Neilson isn’t new to the idea of childhood struggles. He went through a similar struggle while growing in a low-income family. Having a commercial fisherman as a father and a mother who did odd jobs taught him the importance of hard work from a young age. He understood that if he were to earn anything, he would have to work for it and get it honestly. Growing up in a setting where money was limited made him want to get out of that situation and helped him develop entrepreneurial ideas.

 

Mark Neilson’s life history

Mark grew up with both parents in a trailer in Alaska. His parent’s situation equipped Mark with business skills that he used to earn money on the side. At the age of 6 years, Mark Neilson started selling odd items he could place his hands on. The things he sold were weird even to him, for example selling gumballs door to door. As he became older, he tried other business ventures like selling fireworks.

Mark continued with his entrepreneurial ventures. He sold seasonal products like Christmas trees during winter and cold drinks during summer. When he turned 19, Mark went on a mission with his church and stayed there until he was 21. That was a turning moment in his life as he discovered a passion for helping others. That mission showed Mark that deriving his success from other people’s victory would bring him more joy and fulfillment. When he went back to Utah, Mark realized that he couldn’t achieve everything he aspired to achieve there. He embarked on another mission to find a suitable home, somewhere he could feel a sense of belonging. Mark Neilson traveled to different states but finally settled in San Jose, California, a place he has called home for about 3 years now.

One of the tips Mark gives new entrepreneurs is that everyone needs time to get it right. This is an important tip to remember when you’re getting frustrated by things not going as you expected. He also encourages entrepreneurs never to give up. Another tip from Mark Neilson is never to stop learning because that will help in the progress. Doing what’s best for the client and other people is necessary and should be your drive. It is the best way to grow and expand your business. As a new entrepreneur, Mark Neilson also encourages you to have mentors and listen to them. They know what they are talking about because they have been there before.

 

Mark Neilson’s life lessons

Mark always knew there was the possibility of being employed by someone else, but he never pursued that option. Having faced the financial challenges he did while growing up had made him want to avoid any limitations in terms of the amount of money he could make. He realized that if he was to be employed by someone else, he would earn a limited salary. However, if he was to start his own business, he could earn as much as he wanted. The more work he puts in the more money he makes. He knew what he wanted to achieve, and he wasn’t afraid of doing so even with the knowledge that it would take a lot of hard work.

Mark also understood that nothing in life comes easy, but the biggest mistake he could make was to give up. He is always ready to put in the work even if it means staying up late. He shows a great example that is you want to achieve anything; you have to be ready to pay the price, which is usually hard work. Mark Neilson also shows that success isn’t determined by the amount of money you make but by the number of people you help. He feels successful when he helps others succeed. He is also not afraid of taking chances. He takes every opportunity that comes around, even the ones that he isn’t sure will pay off. Through this, he has been able to help many people. This is because those opportunities are always about providing for someone else’s needs. It’s incredible how Mark Neilson doesn’t take credit for his success. Instead, he attributes it to his mentors in the insurance industry.
