An Instagram Story is a slideshow-like feature that rose to popularity on Snapchat that allows users to look at several photos related to your company. These photos or videos are then deleted after 24-hours enabling you to add time-sensitive information to your page. Insta then removes the content also makes the process more convenient on your part.

What a company adds to its story will be dependent on what your company does. In this section, we are going to focus on two different types of businesses, one that provides a service, and one that sells a product. The reason for this is because the marketing would be different between a retail store and a contractor.
Using Insta Stories to Promote a Service Provider
If your company provides a service rather than promote what you do, consider showcasing the different parts of the process. This will allow followers to get a better understanding of what you do, and everyone likes a behind the scenes view of things.
If you are a roofing company, for example, rather than show the beginning and end, why not show the process? Have clips of your team dropping down tarps to help protect the side of the building, and show people removing the old shingles, and tossing them into a large dumpster.
From there, show people installing things like new flashing, a water barrier, and asphalt felt. Then, show a closeup of someone dropping a chalk line and explain its importance. You can then use the hyper-lapse feature, and people will see the shingles being laid before their eyes.
Doing all of this may seem time-consuming, but people will associate this will something akin to an HGTV home-remodelling show.
Using Instagram to Promote a Business
If rather than provide a service, you’re selling a good, stories can also be used to market the products. It’s important not to use stories to spam a variety of items, but rather promote one or two things and say what purpose it provides.
Due to how long an Instagram Story lasts, they become an excellent way to promote flash sales and to remind your client base of any upcoming discounts on items that you carry. Also, because stories appear near the top of the screen, people followers are bound to see not only the highlighted products in your store but also any sales you are running.
Rather than spend a lot of money creating focus groups to get feedback on new ideas, consider adding poles to your stories. Like this, you can get feedback on ideas from your followers and see what their reaction would be to various promotions or the addition of new products.
Share with Followers Information About Your Business
As previously mentioned, you can use the Gram to show the behind the scenes look about your company. You can highlight various parts or features of the company.
An example of this is using Instagram to promote a coffeehouse, you can highlight that your beans are organic and fair-trade certified beans. You can also use stories to say where the beans are sourced from, and if the shop has live music, inform followers about who is performing that night.
Examples of Companies that Effectively Use Insta Stories
We feel by now you have a basic idea of how to effectively market your brand, let’s look at these principles in action. We will be looking at the cereal brand Cheerios and the Major League Soccer Franchise Orlando City Soccer Club, and how these two effectively use Instagram Stories.
Cheerios is known for its efforts to educate people about the importance of saving the bees. They also use stories to provide shot-outs to various followers. This sort of interaction allows for the brand to feel more personable due to the regular interaction with people.
Cheerios’ Instagram page also did a good job of keeping the bio short and sweet. “Little oat O’s bursting with positive energy.💛Share the good you’re doing with #GoodGoesRound.”
By adding something that is hashtaggable, people will gravitate toward this product. Once the hashtag is used, Cheerios can see some great content that is fueled by their cereal and can feature it on their Instagram.
This company also posts pictures of people enjoying their heart-healthy products or pictures of their seasonal products. For example, during autumn, it is common to see photos of the pumpkin-spice Cheerios on their Instagram feed.
Orlando City Soccer Club
When it comes to sports, supports enjoy being the scenes look at the organization. Orlando does a good job of uploading pictures and videos from the training field, weight room, and going to and from games.
Orlando also provides live updates of the game. Whenever the team scores, a picture is uploaded of the player, scores are also uploaded with a cool graphic at the end of each half. Besides the game, Orlando also uploads info related to concession sale promotions and merch sales.
Orlando is also known for giving back to the community. Their stories regularly feature events done in the community or meet-and-greet opportunities with various players. Instagram is also used to promote giveaway opportunities for various merch.
When it comes to using Instagram Stories to promote your business, there are a variety of things that can be done. Whether you’re using the Gram to poll the people, give a behind the scenes look at the day-to-day operations, or promoting items or services offered, the story mode allows people to get bite-sized bits of info.
The best part of this feature is that unlike the company website where you will need to update it regularly, stories will delete themselves after 24 hours; this is good for reminding people about promotions, flash sales, and giveaways.
