A serial entrepreneur comes up with new ideas to start a business in the untapped market. For example, Garrett Atkins is a 27-year old who runs an advertising firm VIE Media. More specifically, he works with brands such as Metro Powered by T-Mobile, Sansone Group, Arsenal Credit Union, Better Homes & Gardens, and other medium-sized companies. Before you do things your way, here are some secrets on how to become a successful serial entrepreneur.
You must have problem-solving skills
If you want to succeed as a serial entrepreneur, you must learn how to assess the problems and adapt to change. Garrett Atkins can safely tell you this – business is business. No matter which industry you’re in, you must hit the ground. Think of it like a group of people climbing a mountain. Not all of them will get to the top on time. Some will quit along the way. As you pursue your business, you can easily fall on your way up.
In 2010, Garrett decided to build a personal brand on the internet and he had to put his skills to the test. Since then, he has never looked back. Today, he handles everything from search engine marketing to photography. His area of specialty is in video production, social media marketing, and web design. Also, it’s extremely rare that your business will grow overnight so you have to be patient. VIE media started with only 3 clients and continues to grow every day.
Do things differently or do different things
As a serial entrepreneur, you want to make a statement. According to Garrett, you should be responsible as you develop relationships. In his podcast recording studio, he utilizes high-tech equipment. So, what makes his business unique? Garrett ensures his clients are distributed to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. Apart from that, he uses social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc. To be a successful entrepreneur, you should work on the uniqueness of your products by making sure they are worth it.
Making something unique also means becoming innovative. How are you going to make something greater than what someone else already has? It could get tiring of doing the same thing over and over so it also improves your drive to spice things up in your company. It’s very simple someone to lose passion quickly if they don’t truly enjoy their environment or if they start to feel that it’s getting repetitive. Trying out something new out that might expand the spectrum of your business could be beneficial and could be that thing that will make your business unique.
If you aren’t innovating and constantly looking to improve your business in different aspects, then are you even passionate about it? It’s a micro sign of giving up. As Garrett mentions, “If you focus on something you like or are passionate about, it will be much harder for you to give up, which is the only way true failure occurs.” One true way to assure you will keep striving forward in your business is to assure that you still have passion.
Work with people/partners
Even if you’re gifted in a certain field, there’s always someone who can do things better in a specific field. Garrett is a public speaker focused on podcasting, social media, and leadership. This helps him grow the business and meet new prospects. In most public events, Garrett meets people who help him take off that workload. He advises other entrepreneurs not to partner with people with the same skill set. Recently, Atkins attended the John C. Maxwell Sanctioned event that focused on leadership. Every speaker brought something new on the table. Garrett is also part of the board of directors in the KMA foundation.
Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs work alone. If you’re looking for long-term success, you should work with smart individuals. This is why Garrett gets inspired when he speaks at conferences to many talented people.
Being a serial entrepreneur is not a make it or break it situation. You need to create systems that can help you develop new ideas. Also, you have to work with like-minded people. So in your next entrepreneurial adventure, you should come up with a list of what you want to pursue and never quit. Just like Garrett Atkins, you should make the most out of the opportunities in life.
Being a serial entrepreneur can also mean having to find passion in multiple things at once. It could be difficult at times but if you do genuinely have that passion then it may not feel like you’re too busy for each one. You will naturally make time for every single thing because you are so drawn to it.
