You have probably noticed, since last year, that some of your friends have been swiping gifts for donations using their Facebook timelines as a tool to reach as many people as possible.
As of this year Instagram has also offered a similar feature and, although this isn’t available to everyone, yet, to find out if you have the option available to start raising funds for a good cause simply head to your Instagram stories and here is how you can start using this very special sticker:
First things first: open your Instagram stories and, while making a post using a previously uploaded image or a video or photo that you have taken in the Instagram Stories camera, simply tap the donation sticker button. For my own Instagram account and clients, I always work with images that I know will look good and will capture people’s attention; but if you are good with the Instagram Stories camera and like that spontaneity, go for it.
Once you have clicked the donations sticker button you will need to search for nonprofits, select the organization you would like to support and share with your followers. It is a long and varied list, including ASPCA, No Kid Hungry, GLAAD, and several others. If you follow a foundation that is listed, it will be shown first, followed by organizations supported by people you follow. You’ll also see three dots next to each suggested foundation, giving you a chance to quickly view their profile before making your decision.
After selecting your favorite charity you will have to give the sticker a fundraising title. The way in which you do this follows the same template used when building a poll on Instagram stories.
Last of all, as soon as you have finished naming it, share your story to let your followers start donating to your chosen nonprofit. They don’t have to leave your story to make a donation, and once they have given the sticker will update for them to ‘donated.
To see how much your story has raised you will need to swipe up on the Live story. There are no transaction fees, so the amount you see in your stats is 100% of the proceeds made through the donation sticker and that will go straight to the nonprofit of your choosing!
If you’re not seeing certain stickers on Instagram, the best thing to do is to make sure your app is updated to the latest version by visiting the App Store or Google Play Store.
