Types of Spray Foam

Open Cell

Open-cell spray foam gets sprayed into wall cavities, cracks, and crevices. It comes out as a liquid and expands to fill the space. It becomes solid once it has dried. Closed Cell

Closed-cell spray foam insulation is similar to open-cell spray foam insulation in that it expands when sprayed into an area. Closed-cell spray foam can be used in areas prone to getting wet due to weather or other factors like plumbing leaks or flooding because it will not soak up any water as open-cell spray foam does.

Low-Density Spray Foam

The cells are not closed but denser than those in open-cell spray foam. Comparatively, it has a higher R-value starting at 3.6 per inch and lowers vapor permeability. Low-density spray foam is for exterior insulation, though it can be used in any part of the house.
